UN: "14,000 babies in Gaza could die within 48 hours"

“I want to save as many of these 14,000 babies as we can in the next 48 hours."

UN's humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher told BBC this morning that up to 14,000 babies in Gaza could die within 48 hours without immediate aid.

He called for a massive influx of humanitarian assistance and said the estimate is based on reports from UN teams on the ground, many of whom have been killed by Israel.

Responding to this world wide concern about the children in Gaza, former Israeli Knesset member Moshe Feiglin in a live interview aired on Channel 14 on 20 May 2025 said: "Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy. The enemy is not Hamas."

His call to "conquer Gaza and not leave a single Gazan child" is part of a broader pattern of Israeli political rhetoric and reflected in speeches by current ministers and government officials, a state of mind that embraces the logic of total erasure of Palestinians.  It echoes the Old Testament concept of 'ḥerem' — the divinely sanctioned annihilation of entire populations — now repurposed to justify mass violence and ethnic cleansing in Palestine.
