US munitions used to bomb UNRWA school in Gaza killing 45 people

CNN reported on Thursday that the munitions used in the Israeli raid on a UN school in central Gaza were American-made munitions.

CNN explained that it reached this conclusion by analyzing a video clip from the scene of the incident and reviewing it with a weapons expert.

The network identified fragments of at least two American GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs (SDB) in a video clip that was transferred from the scene by a journalist working for it.

This is the second time in two weeks that CNN has been able to verify the use of American-made munitions in Israeli attacks on displaced Palestinians.

In turn, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, stated that the school targeted by the occupation in the Nuseirat camp was sheltering 6,000 displaced persons when it was bombed, describing the occupation's claim that armed groups may have been present inside the shelter as "shocking."

He also stressed that attacking, targeting or using UN buildings for military purposes "constitutes a blatant disregard for international humanitarian law," stressing the importance of protecting UN staff, buildings and operations at all times.

Lazzarini said that the occupation has targeted more than 180 UNRWA buildings, and more than 450 displaced persons have been killed as a result, since the war on Gaza began.

He pointed out that UNRWA shares the coordinates of all its facilities (including the coordinates of this school) with the Israeli forces and other parties to the conflict.

He added: "Targeting UN buildings or using them for military purposes cannot become a new norm," stressing that these actions "must stop, and all those responsible must be held accountable."

For its part, the UN Human Rights Office commented on the targeting of the UNRWA school by Israeli aircraft, stressing that "hitting the school in Nuseirat indicates Israel's non-compliance with international law."

On Thursday morning, the occupation targeted the UNRWA-affiliated Al-Sardi School, which houses displaced persons in Camp 2 in Nuseirat in the central Gaza Strip.
