The Israeli military has used Palestinians as human shields in Gaza
There has been many reports of Israel using Palestinians as human shields in Gaza and West Bank. Most recently, several US media outlets reported on Israel's use of civilians, including children, as human shields in Gaza.
The Israeli armed forces used Palestinians in Gaza to enter booby-trapped homes and tunnels to avoid endangering its forces, according to the testimony of an Israeli soldier and five former detainees who were victims of this practice, according to CNN.
International law prohibits the use of civilians to protect military activities, or the forced involvement of civilians in military operations.
In an investigation by the American network, an occupation army soldier said that "his unit detained two Palestinian prisoners to use them as human shields to explore dangerous places," adding that "this practice is widespread among Israeli units in Gaza."
The soldier, according to CNN, continued: "We asked them to enter the building before us, so if there were any traps, they would explode, not us."
According to the results of the network's investigation, ""the mosquito protocol" was widespread throughout the Gaza Strip: in northern Gaza, Gaza City, Khan Yunis, and Rafah."
In June of this year, the Qatari news channel, Aljazeera, reported that it has evidence that showed Israeli armed forces using Palestinians as human shield, too. Aljazeera stated that it "has obtained new exclusive images showing the Israeli occupation army using Palestinian prisoners as human shields during the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
The images, which Al Jazeera obtained, show a prisoner being forced to enter a tunnel after being tied with a rope and a camera attached to his body, in addition to forcing prisoners to wear military clothing while being used as human shields.
They also show a wounded prisoner being used as a human shield and forced to enter destroyed homes in Gaza, where the bodies of martyrs are seen lying on the ground at the entrance to the house.
Al Jazeera had previously obtained images showing the occupation forces using a prisoner as a human shield in one of the streets of the Shujaiya neighborhood east of Gaza City.
In the West Bank, video clips showed a wounded prisoner being tied to the front of an Israeli military vehicle during the storming of the city of Jenin, for fear of resistance bullets."
Other media outlets including Israeli newspapers, have reported on Israel's use of Palestinians as human shields.
